Mallinder counts cost of Saints' 11-try romp

Jim Mallinder was today counting the cost of Northampton Saints' 73-0 thumping of Rotherham.

A patched-up side ran in 11 tries against weakened Titans but suffered another couple of injury blows ahead of Tuesday evening's league clash with Launceston.

Back-rower Paul Tupai limped out of the Franklin's Gardens victory which maintained Saints' 100 per cent record, while Neil Starling finished the game on the wing with his leg strapped.

Director of rugby Mallinder is set to have eight senior players on the sidelines injured plus Euan Murray and Joe Gray on international duty this week, and his squad will be severely stretched by a rare midweek game.

"I think training will be slightly non-existent to be honest," said Mallinder. "You've got to look after these players, it is a physical game.

"It will be our first game under lights this season, so we will have a light run out and hopefully be fresh."

Skipper Bruce Reihana ran in a hat-trick of tries and Starling a brace as Saints ran riot against Rotherham.

But Tupai limped out of the action and had his calf strapped after the game, while Starling was also suffering.

"Starling has twinged his hamstring a bit," said Mallinder. "He has got long legs and is prone to doing that. He should be all right if we look after him.

"Tupai seems to have pulled his calf so we will have to look at that."
