PHIL DOWSON will win his first cap for England starting at No.8 in the Calcutta Cup clash on Saturday.

He joins fellow Saints Chris Ashton, Ben Foden and Dylan Hartley in interim head coach Stuart Lancaster’s first England side to take on Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Saints scrum-half Lee Dickson is on the bench and will be looking to get on to win his first cap in the Six Nations opener.

England this morning named three new caps in the starting team to face Scotland.

Saracens Brad Barritt and Owen Farrell will form a new centre pairing at international level, while the match 22 sees five more uncapped players on the replacements’ bench – Rob Webber (London Wasps), Geoff Parling (Leicester Tigers), Ben Morgan (Scarlets), Dickson (Northampton Saints) and Jordan Turner-Hall (Harlequins).

Head Coach Stuart Lancaster said: “We have been impressed with how the whole group has come together in the last 10 days and we have done a lot of work on and off the field.

“Now is the time to turn all that into a performance against Scotland that we can all be proud of. It is a massive challenge – Murrayfield, the first game of the Six Nations – but one we are relishing.”
