Lewis Ludlam, Jordan Onojaife, Gareth Denman and Sion Bennett all dotted down in front of more than 3,000 supporters.

Flanker Ludlam started things off in the seventh minute as he profited from a strong Saints maul.

The Army then had a try disallowed, but registered a penalty to cut the gap to two points.

Saints conceded a try on 18 minutes, but, six minutes later, lofty lock Onojaife made the most of huge pressure on the Army line to score.

Saints scored again just before the break as prop Denman popped up to score out wide.

And there was to be only one try in the second half, with No.8 Bennett doing the business to put the game beyond the Army.
