Mallinder urges Saints to savour Leinster win

Jim Mallinder told the Saints players to savour the night after seeing them claim an incredible 18-9 win against Leinster in Dublin.

Tries from George North and Jamie Elliott helped Northampton avenge the 40-7 home humbling at the hands of the Irish side a week earlier.

It was a performance packed with spirit and guts as Saints held out on their own line in the dying minutes before Elliott grabbed the ball and raced from inside his own half to score.

Mallinder was in understandably high spirits after the game and was delighted to see his men make amends following the painful defeat to Leinster at the Gardens.

“It’s definitely one of the good wins,” said the director of rugby, when asked to rank it in his best victories since taking charge of Saints in 2007.

“You don’t get many wins away from home in the Heineken Cup and you certainly don’t get many wins away from home against a quality side like Leinster.

“And they are still a quality side. Just because we’ve beaten them, it doesn’t put them down in my estimations at all.

“We’ll enjoy tonight. I hope the lads go out, have a few beers and experience what Dublin’s all about, especially on the back of a win.

“Last week it felt like being in Dublin, at home, and that really hurt, their supporters celebrating and that’s a terrible feeling. We don’t want that to happen again.”
