Rob Baxter says his Exeter side ‘stole a point’ from their New Year’s Day defeat at Saints.
The Chiefs only managed to put three points on the board in the 8-3 loss, with Gareth Steenson’s 74th-minute penalty all they could manage.
But it was enough for a losing bonus point, with the second-placed side heading home after a second defeat in eight league games this season.
And Baxter was happy to have something to show for the trip to Northampton, despite a below-par performance.
“I think we stole a point,” said Baxter.
“We were a bit off for whatever reason; we were a little tentative early on in the game and never found one way of getting ourselves in the game.
“Our maul never got going because we didn’t catch enough line-out ball, it was tippy-tappy stuff.
“Defensively we looked okay, but overall I am pleased to get a losing bonus point because I can’t say that performance merited it.”
