Saints have been handed a double boost as England stars Courtney Lawes and Ben Foden edge closer to return from injury.

And Lawes could even be in line for a comeback this weekend as England boss Stuart Lancaster has sent the lock back to Northampton ahead of the LV= Cup game at Newport-Gwent Dragons on Sunday.

The 23-year-old has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury in Saints’ 16-6 defeat to Saracens at Franklin’s Gardens on October 27.

Foden’s road to recovery has been far longer as the full-back sustained ankle ligament damage in the win at Bath on September 14.

But he has confirmed he is back running again and is optimistic of a return to action sooner rather than later.

Foden tweeted: “Back running this week, tomorrow (Tuesday) is a big day! Reckon I’ll be good to go soonish!!!! #wolverine #readytorun”
