Roade showjumper Stockdale named in GB Olympic team
Northamptonshire showjumper Tim Stockdale will make his Olympic debut after selectors today included him in the Great Britain team for Beijing.
The 43-year-old from Roade, who has enjoyed a brilliant international career that stretches back more than 20 years, did enough to impress with good performances at the Nations Cups in Rome and Aachen recently.
Stockdale will be part of the GB jumping team and will ride on Fresh Direct Corlato.
"I am over the moon," said a delighted Stockdale.
"My mare Corlato has gone fantastically well and she deserves the opportunity to jump at the Olympic Games.
"It is great for everyone concerned; my team at home, my owners and sponsors, who have all had belief in me. The Olympic Games is everything I have worked for and a huge honour.
"I am a very lucky man to have such a fantastic horse to ride."
Will Connell, Team GB's Equestrian team leader said Stockdale is more than worthy of his selection and said:"This year's jumping team is truly a team of youth and experience. Tim, who has achieved so much, really deserves his first shot at an Olympics."
