Reihana targets Premiership glory for Saints
Bruce Reihana is hoping to crown his testimonial season by going one better than last term.
After seven years at Franklin's Gardens that have seen Reihana make 213 appearances in the green, black and gold and amass 994 points for the club, Reihana is to have a testimonial this season.
The 34-year-old has seen an upturn in fortunes since Jim Mallinder took over as director of rugby, winning the European Challenge Cup and the LV= Anglo-Welsh Cup over the last two seasons.
Saints came agonisingly close to reaching their first Premiership final last season, and with Reihana in the final chapter of his glittering career he is determined to get there this season.
Reihana said: "We didn't meet our expectations at the end of last season, especially in the way we got there, but we're going to use that to help build our energy and enthusiasm to push ourselves harder to make it bigger and better at the Saints.
"There is a high level of expectation at the club now and this is why we've got to work so hard in pre-season. We know what level we finished on and we know what level we need to reach for the start of the season.
"We've got to kick on straight away and get back playing good rugby in the way we know we can."
Saints have brought in 12 new players this summer and the vast majority are under 25 to bring down the average of what was already a young squad even lower.
And with performance director Nick Johnston's tough pre-season training under way, Reihana says the youngsters are pushing him to keep his legendary fitness standards up.
"It's certainly more inspiring for me because the younger the new guys keep getting the older I keep looking!" said Reihana.
"It keeps pushing me along because I've got to keep up with them."
