QPR boss delighted with Sixfields work-out
Iain Dowie felt his Queens Park Rangers side did plenty to please him against a Northampton Town outfit he rates very highly.
Dowie's men were narrow 1-0 winners in a game where chances were few and far between.
Leon Constantine had the best scoring opportunity for the home side, but Dexter Blackstock scored the decisive goal after 25 minutes.
The overall level of control was the stand-out aspect for Dowie, who said: "It's always a good work-out when you come to Northampton.
"I've got a great deal of time for Stuart (Gray), I played with him for some time and I know the way his teams play.
"Northampton have made some good acquisitions and this is always a tough place to come.
"Apart from the first 10 minutes where we couldn't seem to get the ball I thought we looked in control, and especially after the goal."
Mark Bunn made a couple of crucial interventions in the match, notably a 36th-minute save to deny Patrick Agyemang.
Dowie was delighted with how busy his players kept the Cobblers custodian, while welcoming the fact his own keeper was virtually a spectator.
"We restricted them to just the chance at the end," said the former Northern Ireland international.
"I think if you look at it Lee (Camp, QPR goalie) hasn't had to make a save at all, whereas their lad has had to make a couple of sharp ones.
"So there were plenty of pleasing aspects for me."
