Preview: Macclesfield v Cobblers

Chris Dunn can sum up the general reaction of the Cobblers squad when last week's game was postponed in one word: Gutted.

But the players should get the chance to let off some steam at Macclesfield tomorrow, where the host club are confident that – one

mass pitch-clearing operation later – the fixture will go ahead.

Both teams are keen to play due to their recent form – Northampton haven't lost since December 1, while Macclesfield buried Crewe 4-1 in their most recent outing.

For Chris Dunn, who has kept three clean sheets in a row, the frustration is magnified, and it won't have helped his mood that recent training has taken place on Astroturf – not the most forgiving of surfaces when your daily routine involves throwing yourself on the ground several hundred times.

"All the lads were gutted when we didn't play against Chesterfield," he said.

"We just wanted to keep our good run going and we're confident we can do that against Macclesfield this weekend.

"It's been tricky this week because we haven't been able to train on the pitches, they're snowed under.

"But we've been doing stuff on the Astroturf in short, sharp bursts and that's been helpful, especially as some clubs haven't been able to train at all.

"For a keeper it's not too bad, you've just got to be careful because the ground is obviously quite hard. At this time of year the pitches are all pretty hard anyway, though, so it's not really any different."
