ASHLEY LANE has been lined up to resurrect the career of former British and Commonwealth challenger Wayne Bloy... but the Blackthorn lifeguard says this is somebody he won’t be saving.

Bloy has not boxed for nearly three years but has lined up a comeback fight against youngster Lane in his back yard of Hull on December 11.

After a win, a draw and a defeat in his first three professional bouts it will certainly be a step up for Lane.

The former Far Cotton ABC boxer will also be going into his first six-round contest after dealing exclusively in four rounders.

After boxing at featherweight, Lane, who works as a lifeguard at Billing Aquadrome, is dropping down to bantamweight for the clash with Bloy, who will be 29 by the time they meet and who fought all his title bouts at flyweight.

But the prospect of taking on Bloy, who has fought for three titles, losing them all, does not faze Lane.

The 21-year-old said: “It is going to be hard and I have got to knuckle down and train hard for this fight. It is a step up for me, but I think his style will suit me.

“It is a chance for me to get a big scalp and get my name known. If I beat him I will be able to move up the ladder.

“I have looked at the reports of his fights and it seems he has lost when it people have gone at him. That is how I have been taught by John Daly at Far Cotton as an amateur, to come forward. I want to turn it into a proper brawl. I have become an aggressive boxer and I like to throw punches in bunches. I think it will suit me, I am looking forward to it.”

Ryan Conway made light work of the awkward James Kingham as he continues his preparations to enter next season’s championships.

The Kings Heath ABC ace scored heavily with straight left and rights throughout the contest with Thames Valley ABC’s King ham to register a unanimous points win.

Kings Heath ABC coach Arthur Daly said: “Ryan is growing in confidence as he recorded his fourth win in as many bouts this season. These bouts are geared up for next year’s Championships and we are prepared too box a wide variety of opponents to give him the necessary experience. It is very pleasing to watch the hard work coming to fruition.”

Club-mate Oliver Avill also won a unanimous decision on Sydenham ABC’s Anthony Collins’ home turf.

Avill silenced a 300-strong crowd in the senior featherweight contest.

Daly said: “Oliver edged every round in an entertaining bout that the host club Sydenham fancied strongly.

“He showing fine footwork mixed with powerful accurate shots plus he showed plenty of guts and determination to come away with a very satisfying win

“He was enjoying himself in there and that is half the battle. Now we can settle down and start developing him for the future.”
