Northampton Town: Dunn vows to maintain performance

Chris Dunn has vowed to maintain his recent performance levels despite being one of only four first-team players with the luxury of a contract that runs beyond the current season.

Goalkeeper Dunn – along with Steve Guinan, Chris McCready and Courtney Herbert – has a deal that includes all of the current campaign and all of the next one.

It means the giant stopper has none of the anxieties that the vast majority of the squad has about their medium-term future in league football.

But Dunn has promised not to lapse into a comfort zone, and after keeping three successive clean sheets, wants to keep the curve moving upward.

"I'm enjoying my football here and hopefully I can carry that on and keep doing well for the club," said the 22-year-old, who was denied the chance to extend his run of shut-outs when Saturday's game at Macclesfield was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

"I've got this season and next season on my contract but I won't get complacent about that, you simply can't afford to.

"We all need to be consistent to keep this run going and to keep playing well.

"We'll need a little bit of luck as well and if we have all those things then hopefully results can take care of themselves."

Dunn admits he is his own biggest critic, and has spent many lonely afternoons scrutinising tapes of his performances to see where he can get better.

The youth-team graduate believes the homework is paying off, as well as his daily grind under Sixfields goalkeeping coach Simon Brown.

"I'm just trying to improve all areas of my game," he said. "I think I can improve every aspect of how I play as a goalkeeper.

"I've been working very hard with Simon Brown and he's shown me a lot of things, I've really learned quite a lot from him."
