Northampton Town: Guttridge double does the job

LUKE GUTTRIDGE'S double put the Cobblers into the FA Cup second round at the expense of a stubborn Fleetwood.

Town had taken the lead on the half-hour when Guttridge slid home John Johnson's cross at the near post.

The home side then wasted a litany of chances to extend that lead, with Ryan Gilligan missing the target from distance on three occasions.

And they were made to pay for it when a long ball over the top was not dealt with by the defence, and Sean Clancy steadied himself before drilling past Chris Dunn's left hand.

Fleetwood had their chances in the second half too, and perhaps should have scored when substitute Tom Cahill blasted an attempt wide after a goalmouth scramble.

But it was Guttridge's whipped free-kick on 62 minutes that settled it, and booked Northampton's place in round two.
