Murray out of Scotland tour

Saints prop Euan Murray has been forced to pull out of Scotland's tour of Argentina.

Murray has been withdrawn from the Scotland party to tour next month on account of ankle injuries.

Murray, 29, who won his 32nd cap in Scotland's victory over Ireland in March, will be replaced by Edinburgh's Geoff Cross for the two Test South American tour.

Scotland team doctor James Robson said: "Following consultation between our medical team and the medics at Euan's club, Northampton, the decision has been taken in the interests of the player for Euan to undergo a period of rest, treatment and rehabilitation for differing injuries affecting both ankles."

The promotion of 27-year-old Cross – who won his second cap in the Calcutta Cup match in March – means a change is required in the Scotland A squad for the IRB Nations Cup in Bucharest.

Thus Bruce Douglas, 30, who won the last of his 43 full Scotland caps four years ago returns to A team duty from the Montpelier club in France, albeit he will be moving to Worcester Warriors for the start of the new season.

One other change to the A squad sees Glasgow Warriors prop Jon Welsh stand down. Welsh is still troubled by a leg injury. His place will be taken by fellow Warrior Ed Kalman.
