A champion motorcycle racer from Northampton is undergoing an extensive course of rehab to get her fit in time for this year’s sporting season.

Maria Costello MBE, aged 39, from Spratton, broke her leg while racing at Mallory Park in Leicestershire on October 20, 2012 and underwent surgery the next day in Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Miss Costello, who became Guinness World Record holder for being the fastest woman to lap the Isle of Man TT course in 2005, has received treatment from physiotherapist Barry Gourdriaan, of Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, personal training from Joe Power, of Dallington Racquets and Fitness Club, and hypnotherapy from Christian Baker in Northampton.

She said the team helped her stay positive, and added: “I
will be back to full fitness in time for the start of the new season at the end of April and I couldn’t have done it without them.

“I suppose you could call them my entourage and I will continue to work with them throughout the season.”

Maria Costello plans to take part in a full season of Irish road racing on her
Supertwin bike, supported by Steve Wheatman, of
Hol-Taj in Earls Barton, near Northampton, and she is also looking forward to the Isle of Man TT races, the Ulster Grand Prix,
the Manx Grand Prix and classic bike racing in America.
