MOTORCYCLE racer Maria Costello will team up with former grand prix and British Superbike star Seam Emmett later this year for a series of classic races.

The Spratton racer will ride the Team Classic Suzuki XR69 at Classic Racing Motorcycle Club meets alongside Emmett, who will be on board the Suzuki RG500.

The CRMC race calendar begins in April. To find out more about the meets visit www.crmc.co.uk.

Meanwhile Costello, who announced recently she will be sponsored for the upcoming season by Dallington Racquets and Fitness Club in Northampton and Hol Taj Exports in Wellingborough, has also launched her own android phone application.

The ‘app’ allows bike fans to stay up-to-date with Maria’s race schedule, book signings, public appearances and blog posts.

Users of the app will also be able to access exclusive ringtones, wallpapers and offers, as well as be able to make a donation to Maria’s chosen charity CoppaFeel.

Costello’s next challenge will see her attempt to complete a non-stop cycle challenge in aid of charity.

She will team up with friend and fitness fanatic Emily Campbell to complete a 12-hour spinning challenge to raise money for Coming Home, the fund-raising campaign for forces charity Haig Housing Trust.

The pair will start their challenge – which will see them joined every hour by a new instructor and class of spinners, including members of the Saints rugby team and Northants County Cricket Club – at 7.30am on Monday, February 20, at Dallington Racquets and Fitness Club.

Anyone who wants to take part can book a place in a class by calling the club on Northampton 592929.

Participation costs £5 and additional sponsorship forms are available from enquiries@haighousingtrust.org.uk.

Coming Home provides specially-adapted homes for severely injured and disabled service people. To find out more about their work visit www.coming-home.org.uk. To make a donation call 02086 855770.

PREPARATIONS for the Force India team’s 2012 Formula 1 season are in ‘much better shape’ than last year, according to the squad’s technical director.

The team’s new season challenger, the VJM05, will be unveiled to the media at Silverstone on February 3, prior to the start of pre-season testing in Jerez four days later.

Thanks to a new FIA requirement all crash tests be passed before a car is allowed to begin testing, as opposed to before the first race weekend, the team has been left with an extra margin in January in which to react to any potential design problems, which technical director Andrew Green said was a positive.

Commenting on the team’s website he said: “We’re in much better shape compared to 12 months ago.

“We’re looking for a higher level of build quality to get us off to a good start. We have time to get things absolutely right, so we know when we do hit the ground in Jerez everything has been fully-tested, and we understand the car completely with respect to all the structural design.”

Green said having extra time had allowed the team to focus on developments it could bring to the car for later tests in Barcelona, the first race in Australia on March 18, and beyond, as well as undertake more extensive rig testing in the factory.

“It gives us confidence we’ve built what we’ve designed,” he added.

“So when we do go to Jerez and there is a handling trait we’re trying to dial out there are fewer question marks over parts of the car. It allows us to focus, during winter testing, on getting the car set-up optimum.”
