Learning curve goes on for young Charley
Charley Hull will have learnt from the experience of playing in the Ladies British Open Amateur Championships for the first time even though she missed out on the knockout stages at Royal St David's Golf Club.
As the youngest player and the highest handicapper in a field of international amateurs, the 13-year-old always faced a difficult task to try and get into the top 64 on a long course.
But the Kettering member, who now plays off one, showed plenty of talent as she bagged three consecutive birdies from the 12th hole in an opening round of seven-over-par 80.
Needing a score around level par to qualify for the next stage, Hull bagged three more birdies on the second day only to run out of steam in the final few holes to finish with an 83.
Although the county girls champion was nine shots adrift of the cut in 119th spot, she will take comfort from the fact that she still beat players from the US, Australia, Germany, France, Austria and New Zealand.
The youngster came into the event in good form after shooting gross rounds of 73 and 71 in her previous outing, to grab eighth spot in the prestigious Astor Salver at The Berkshire.
