Lamont now looking like future is here
Scotland winger Sean Lamont's future is still up in the air, but judging from his past few displays maybe it will be at Franklin's Gardens after all.
With his contract up at the end of the season, it seemed early on in the year that Lamont would be off.
Big-money moves to Toulon and Brive were on the table, but both have fallen through.
It is understood Lamont was all set to sign for Brive, but the move broke down at the last minute.
The chance to move back up north to Edinburgh was also on the cards but it doesn't seem that the Scottish club has the finance to pull Lamont back.
Scarlets are the latest club to move for the winger, but Saints have an offer on the table for Lamont and after a spell where his mind did look elsewhere, the 28-year-old has looked fully switched on of late.
After scoring two tries in the impressive Wanderers win at Wasps, Lamont was Saints' best player in the Premiership defeat at Sale and he put in a totally committed display in the second leg of the Guinness A League final against Wasps.
Director of rugby Jim Mallinder still wants Lamont and now it seems a straight choice between Scarlets and Saints.
"He's been fantastic for us recently, playing really well," Mallinder said last week.
"But it's one of those things. When players come out of contract they get offers from elsewhere."
Perth-born Lamont joined the Saints from Glasgow in 2005 and has scored 23 tries in 68 appearances for the club.
The 28-year-old has won 37 caps since his debut in 2004, but he lost his place in the Scotland side this season. He was at last week's awards dinner to pick up his Saints cap after finally making 50 appearances this season.
Lamont's four years at Saints have been disrupted by call-ups and injury, with last season wiped out by a major knee injury that required surgery to reconstruct it.
