Heat is on Rothwell
Rothwell Town go to Bury Town in BGB Southern League Division One Midlands tonight knowing the heat is on in the relegation battle.
Saturday's home defeat by Chesham United has left the Bones three points clear of the bottom two as a one-time healthy gap between themselves and the drop zone has been gradually whittled away.
While Malvern Town appear doomed at the bottom, seven points adrift of the rest, the next five teams are covered by just five points.
Were results to go against the Bones over the course of tonight and tomorrow – when one of their relegation rivals Woodford United play – they could find themselves in the bottom two owing to a worse
goal-difference than the two sides immediately below them.
Part of the reason for that was the seven-goal hammering they got from tonight's opponents when the sides met at Cecil Street in November.
Since then, however, Bones boss Rob Dunion has brought some more experience into his squad and he doesn't expect a repeat.
But he knows that, having taken only one point from four successive home games, the pressure is now on to get something on the road.
And that looks a tall order tonight given that the Blues are still eyeing up the play-offs having won their last six.
In the last two months they have also put seven past Dunstable Town, Stourport Swifts and Malvern.
"The pressure is on for us and we have to dramatically improve in the final third," said Dunion.
"It's about being mentally strong as much as anything.
"Physically we are fine and we're not getting hammered in any
games but that's not getting us any points."
