Gray: Corby will be desperate to sink Cobblers

Stuart Gray has warned his Northampton Town players they will face a Corby Town side desperate to put one over the pros tomorrow.

The Steelmen are an ambitious club and will field two former Town players, with Tommy Jaszczun and Lawrie Dudfield set to start, and a third, Jason Lee, likely to be on the bench.

Confidence is high at Rockingham Triangle following last season's promotion to Blue Square North, as high a level as the club has ever played at.

It means Corby are now only a division below Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering Town, and just two below the Cobblers themselves.

The Steelmen know a good result against the county's top-ranked team tomorrow will give them a sizeable boost ahead of the big kick-off next month – and Gray is well aware of that fact.

"Whenever you play a pre-season friendly, and it doesn't really matter where it is, the non-league sides always want to beat the pros," said Gray, who has so far steered Town through two games against non-league opposition.

"Corby will be another difficult game because they've got some good, experienced players there and they've added to the squad very well over the summer.

"You never lose that knowledge of how to play the game, you just slow down a bit.

"Me and Sammo could probably get through a game if the pitch was small enough because you never lose that ability.

"But it'll be another good test for us."
