Hull’s career continues to Blossom with US win
Sports News
NORTHANTS’ Charley Hull recorded another high finish in her latest tournament on the Florida Orange Blossom Tour in the US.
Fresh from winning the Harder Hall Invitational to move up to sixth in the world rankings, the 15-year-old maintained her form with third place in the South Atlantic Women’s Amateur Championship.
In a tournament known as The Sally, the Kettering member was involved in a thrilling head-to-head battle with Thai sisters Moriya and Ariya Jutanugarn.
The Junior Solheim Cup player, who plays with a handicap of plus-four, carded scores of 72, 68, 70 and 70 to finish just one shot behind runner-up Ariya and a further three adrift of her older sibling Moriya.
Despite the excellent result, Hull dropped one place in the world standings to seventh and could lose more ranking points if she doesn’t retain her Ione D Jones/Doherty Championship title this week.

Carl Sainsbury used local knowledge to good effect in the opening Winter Series Pro-Am this year as he fired the only under-par round of 71 at Brampton Heath.
The home pro finished one clear of Rodney Holt (Silverstone), Adam Myers (Northants County) and Neil Evans, as runaway Order of Merit leader Simon Lilly (Wellingborough) could only finish tied fifth on 73.
Fellow Brampton professional Dan Wood, who also shot 73 alongside Cold Ashby’s Shane Rose, formed part of the winning team as he combined perfectly with his dad Vince, Paul Bull and John Faulkner.
The home team carded a stunning score of 16-under-par 128 to finish half a dozen strokes ahead of three teams.
Farthingstone pro Mike Gallagher’s quartet were runners-up on countback from Sainsbury’s fourball, with Cold Ashby pro Shane Rose’s side having to settle for fourth spot.

Brian Aitken and Paul Rappo compiled the best score in this year’s Bruton Plate Winter League as the pair bagged an excellent tally of 52 points in round six.
Ian Forman and Richard Parr were runners-up on 49, with Paul Durant and Chris Miller (48) picking up third prize on countback from two other pairings.
Mary Forman and Ada Parr led the way in the fifth round of the Ladies George Blues Trophy as their tally of 43 points pushed them one ahead of Jill Aldous and Kay Edwards.
Bob Cook was too hot for the opposition in the latest 9 O’Clock Club competition as he lifted the Brian Jarrett Boot with 39 points. Mike Swinnerton and Stuart Wallace were next on 38.
