Golf: Stan's chasing for Turkish delight
Stan Hall is just one step away from a luxury five-day trip to Turkey after making it through to the next stage of the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship at Frilford Heath GC.
After clinching the club qualifier with a net 69, nine-handicapper Hall will now play alongside Collingtree Park pro Brian Mudge in one of 16 regional finals on Monday, June 22.
The pair will play one round of better-ball medal play, with the winner booking an all-expenses-paid luxury trip to compete in the Grand Final held on the PGA Sultan course at Antalya GC in December.
In it's 25th year and with more than 100,000 competitors entering the PGA National Pro-Am, an overall prize fund of 30,000 is on offer, with the winning pro taking home a cheque for 5,000.
Northants County
Roger Brady's net 67 grabbed the plaudits in the May midweek medal as he finished one ahead of Bob Garrett in the first division. Edward Williams (72) was third.
Division two was won by Peter Darby with a net 71 – one better than Ebbe Dinesen and Nick White, who were second and third respectively.
After returning from US college a few days earlier, Matt Bird took no time to settle back in as he carded the best gross round of 74.
MPGA
Ten Northamptonshire pros are in a field of 78 at Wellingborough Golf Club on Thursday as they compete for the MPGA Glazerite Trophy over 36 holes.
Kettering's Simon Lilly, who played in the PGA Championships at Wentworth this week, is one of the favourites as he tees off in the second group on his return to his old club.
Brampton Heath duo Carl Sainsbury and Allan Wright will be looking for a good finish, as will Shane Rose (Cold Ashby), Stuart Kier (Overstone) and Northants County pair Nick Soto and Ed Chapman, who is now a full professional.
Moor Hall's Cameron Clark, who set a course record when clinching the title 12 months ago, tees off in one of the later groups.
