Golden Brown picks up a countback win

Wayne Brown needed countback to get the better of Duane Hayle in the top division of the Staverton December Medal after both players carded net 69 at the weekend. Darren Taylor was a stroke further adrift in third.

A round of net 70 on the Sunday earned Paul Taylor first spot in the second division as he edged one ahead of overnight pacesetter Andrew Witcombe, with Nic Burte (72) third.

Nathan Perry's Saturday score of net 80 always looked likely to be overtaken on the last day and so it proved as Kevin Everett grabbed first prize with a 74.

Perry managed to hold onto second place on countback from David Gwalchmai and Lawrie Worbey.

In the veterans monthly stableford, Tony Perneys bagged 37 points to clinch top spot by one point from runner-up Mike Milam and Richard Harris.

The November winners of the Hundreds Club Individual Medal were Tim Hibberd, Cyril Green and David Williams.

Stephen King shocked his fellow Cherwell Edge members with two club competition victories in a matter of days.

King was the only player to match the course in the bogey comp as he finished ahead of runner-up Ricky Dunn and third-placed Matthew Watts, who both finished one down.

A few days earlier in the monthly stableford, King compiled a winning score of 37 points in the second division. Paul Carruthers and Paul Fuller (both 35) were his closest challengers.

Countback was required in the top section as Keith Stennings edged out Kevin Cole and Graham Collett on 36.

Paul Wikeley end-of-season form continued as he joined forces with Mark Harris to win the Whittlebury Turkey Trot competition.

After two consecutive fifth place finishes in monthly stablefords, Page was once again in good touch as he helped the pair shoot 45 points.

The duo finished two ahead of runners-up Sandra Pearson and Michael Page, who has been out-of-sorts for most of the year, with Peter Coles and Edward Watt (42) in third spot.

Ada Parr won her fifth ladies competition of the year as she came out on top, alongside partner Mary Forman, in the second round of the George Blues Trophy.

The pair carded 20 points over nine holes to win by two from first round winners Christine Pearce and Michelle Watson.

Whittlebury Park Golf Club, meanwhile, are now offering a selection of winter packages, including a Christmas dinner deal which consists of all day golf and a two course meal.

Three points was Tim Starmer's margin of victory in the top division of the Farthingstone December stableford after the 10-handicapper carded 42 points. Paul Hodgkiss was runner-up, with former NGU President Mike Taylor third on 36.

Graham Surrey was victorious in Division Two as a score of 38 points gave him a one-point advantage from runner-up Richard Lindon and third-placed Tony Banyard.

The best points tally came in the third section as Mike Albone bagged 43 to win by one from Duncan Bisatt, with Joe Henson two points further adrift in third.
