Geraghty gives Saints narrow lead in semi-final clash
Saints 14 Saracens 12 Shane Geraghty's boot gave Saints a narrow lead at the break in a tetchy LV= Cup semi-final clash.
Saints scored the only try of the half when captain Phil Dowson powered over, but the well-used boot of Derick Hougaard landed four penalties for Saracens.
Hougaard also had three long-range drop-goal attempts that drifted wide and provoked boos and chants of 'boring, boring' from the home crowd.
Saints slipped 3-0 down to a fifth-minute Hougaard penalty, before Dowson spun over from a metre out after a home scrum had sent Saracens spinning back into their 22.
But Saints' discipline wasn't great and Hougaard put Saracens ahead with two more penalties, before Geraghty replied.
Saints couldn't make a sin-bin for Sarries skipper Ernst Joubert count as the visitors came out of it 3-3.
And Saracens looked to be heading for a 12-11 half-time lead. But with 15 seconds to go Richard Skuse was yellow-carded for laying on the ball and after missing an effort moments earlier Geraghty landed the penalty from 30m.
