Ryan Watson says he and his team-mates will 'discuss as a group' why the Cobblers let another 2-0 lead slip after their dramatic defeat at Walsall on Saturday.

For the fourth time this season, Town failed to turn a 2-0 lead into all three points as the Saddlers scored three goals in the second 45 minutes to snatch victory.

Cobblers have also surrendered 2-0 leads against Morecambe, Crawley and Oldham this season, conceding late equalisers in all thee matches.

"It was difficult with the wind but the pitch wasn't too bad to be fair and obviously both teams had to deal with it so it's not an excuse," said Watson.

"Maybe we let the travelling fans down in the second-half so we've got to put that right now and move forward.

"Off the top of my head, straight after the game, I can't say where we happened in the second-half but it's something we can discuss between ourselves. We'll have to talk about it as a group and work out what did go wrong.

"We're all very frustrated because we were very good in the first-half but we'll just have to work even harder and have a look at ourselves after the second-half performance."

Despite Cobblers now dropping out of the play-off places in League Two, Watson remains upbeat about their promotion chances this season.

He added: "We won't feel sorry for ourselves and we'll work even harder and show a reaction in the next game because we need to get back to winning ways.

"We're still in with a fighting chance and we all want to get promotion at the end of the season.

"There's only 13 games left and there's more than enough ability in our dressing room to go on another run so I don't see why we can't do it."

Watson returned to the starting line-up on Saturday after missing out against leaders Swindon the previous Tuesday.

"It was a bit of motivation for myself," he continued. "I feel personally that I can play better than how I did in the game before so it was nice to be back in the team on Saturday.

"I've just got to make sure I keep playing and I keep the shirt and keep doing what I can for the team."
