Potter targeting a goal rush in Cobblers colours

The diminutive winger put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Sixfields 12 days ago, opting for a move to Northampton after a short spell at AFC Wimbledon, following a six-year stint at Oxford United.

The Peterborough United youth product has always been seen as an exciting, attacking player, but he admits himself that he doesn’t score enough goals, managing a modest 30 in almost 250 appearances.

That is a situation he is planning to change.

“The season before last I scored 11 goals, so if I can start adding more goals to my game again then that would be great,” said Potter, who was signed for Oxford by current Cobblers manager Chris Wilder, and enjoyed that 11-goal purple patch under him.

“There have been seasons where I have scored four or six here and there, but I know I am going to get plenty of chances here, especially in the formation that the gaffer plays, and with the players that are here.

“It will then be up to me to put those chances away.

“But first and foremost I need to make sure that my performance levels are up to standard so that I am playing in the team to get those chances.

“I am looking forward to a good pre-season so I can get myself in the best shape I have ever been in. It’s time for me to kick on.”

Potter is looking forward to making Sixfields home, and it is a stadium he enjoys playing in.

“I have only played at Sixfields twice, because I think I missed a game through injury,” said Potter, who scored in Oxford’s 3-1 win at Northampton last October.

“We played here once in the snow, and it was a tough game, but it was one I enjoyed, and I have always enjoyed playing here.

“I am looking forward to playing here week in, week out.”
