Nothing sorted after draw for Bones
THEY say Easter is a time in a season when issues are sorted.
But in Rothwell Town's case, the picture at the bottom of BGB Southern League Division One Midlands is still unclear.
The Bones remained unbeaten over the holiday period. But two points from two games doesn't seem enough, especially as the first of those draws was against rock-bottom Malvern.
After that result, Rothwell had to get something against Aylesbury United and the early signs were promising as Fazel Koriya tested Ducks keeper Tom Vincent after only 40 seconds.
But that optimism was swiftly
dispelled on seven minutes when Neil Roberts was allowed to wriggle through challenges and square for an unmarked Nathan Graham to score at his leisure.
In fairness, the Bones should have had a penalty soon after but Mark Boyce somehow got away with clearly handling Kevin Byrne's cross in the area.
Referee Mr Green – who was poor throughout – at least proved he was consistently oblivious to this area of the game when also not awarding Aylesbury a spot kick for Martin
Flannigan's foul on Chris Marsh – who needed five minutes of on-pitch treatment as a result.
By then, the Bones were level after a howler from Vincent who let Danny Marlow's speculative 22nd-minute shot slip through his hands, the assistant referee ruling the ball had crossed the line.
Marlow should have had a second in more conventional manner five minutes after half-time but could only head straight at the keeper when unmarked inside the box.
However, it did look as if any side were going to score again, it would be the Bones with Kevin Byrne, Koriya and Marlow all posing a consistent threat to the Ducks defence, none more so than when Byrne was inches wide on 86 minutes.
But scoring has been Rothwell's Achilles heel this season and once again they couldn't turn possession into goals and so had to settle for one point when three were there for the
taking.
