Cobblers considering foreign loans for young trio

Aidy Boothroyd mentioned Ireland - whose Airtricity League runs from March to October - and Scandinavia as possible destinations for the three players to play some first-team football in preparation for the 2013-14 league two campaign.

All three have already featured in the senior side at Sixfields and have signed professional forms after rising through the youth-team ranks.

The past season was a good one on the youth development front, with central midfielder Lewis Hornby rising to prominence and making 29 first-team appearances.

Hornby himself benefited greatly from a spell at Kettering Town as a 16-year-old and Boothroyd is hoping goalkeeper Snedker, midfielder Dias and striker Moyo can enjoy similar experiences on their loan spells.

“We’ve talked as a staff about getting Dean (Snedker), Claudio (Dias) and David Moyo out for some summer football,” he said.

“Whether that be in Scandinavia or Ireland or somewhere, I don’t know, but we’ll perhaps look at that as a way of getting them some games.”

Although Moyo started the final two games of the regular campaign last year - performing notably well in a pressure situation at Port Vale - it is Snedker who is possibly the closest to a regular first-team role.

Boothroyd will sign a new goalkeeper this summer following Lee Nicholls’ return to Wigan Athletic at the conclusion of his loan but has hinted that Snedker could cause a rethink on that front if he performs well in pre-season.

“Everything Dean has done has been great,” he said. “He’s played for England and there is a decision to be made with him.

“As I said to him in his player interview when the squad went away for the summer, if he comes back strongly he might save the club a few quid in terms of bringing a new goalkeeper in.”
