Edinburgh: Sixfields feel-good factor has helped Cobblers

And the Cobblers boss has urged his players to send the supporters home happy once again as Swindon come to town tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

Edinburgh has secured victories in both of his home games since taking charge of Cobblers last month.

Both matches have seen Town score three goals against teams below them in Sky Bet League One.

And more of the same would be welcome when Swindon, who sit 22nd, seven points behind Cobblers in the league standings, arrive this evening.

“You want to win every match, but it’s really important to have a really good home record,” said Edinburgh, who steered his team to a 3-1 win against Chesterfield at Sixfields on Saturday.

“That’s where the majority of your fans come and watch and you want to send them home happy, pleased and in the anticipation of coming back for the next game.

“It’s so far, so good.

“I do (feel the vibe is improving at Sixfields).

“The fans have been very patient, vocal and really supportive, which is all you can ask as a manager.

“It reflects onto the players and that’s been shown in their performances.

“We want that to continue.”

The Cobblers played have been buoyed by the home wins against Coventry and Chesterfield.

But Edinburgh wants that to be just the start for his side.

“We’ve taken a huge amount of confidence, but that’s just a start and we’ve got to make sure we continue that and not let the last two go to waste,” he said.

“We want to make Sixfields a fortress. We’ve started that and tonight is another opportunity to continue that.

“It’s three big points available and we go into the game with confidence off the back of two excellent home victories of late.

“It’s another big game for us.”

It is also a big game for Swindon, who have lost their past four matches.

And Edinburgh said: “I took myself to see them against Oxford and for the first 35 minutes they were the better side and were totally in control of the game.

“But from the last 10 minutes of the first half and throughout the second half, Oxford really dominated the game and went on to secure the victory.

“Swindon are a footballing side, they will play and they won’t change their style so we know what we’re going to come up against.

“But what we’ve seen in this league is that we can never be complacent because any team is capable.

“We’ve got to go an impose ourselves on Swindon and go and continue to build on the home form we’ve started.

“But we know they can be dangerous at any given time.”

Cobblers have the chance to record back-to-back league wins for the first time since October tonight.

And Edinburgh is desperate to make it happen after praising his players for the way they have handled the pressure of recent home games against sides below them.

“They’ve approached them with a real good mindset, great mentality and that will need to continue,” he said.

“If we can secure another victory then that will put us in a real good position.

“It would be back-to-back league games, which hasn’t happened for a while.

“I’ve been really pleased and delighted with the players’ attitude and mentality, not only to training but the matches as well.”
