‘We will give a couple of players a chance to show what they can do.’

Midfielder Ben Fox and forward Kieron Bowie are both likely to be ‘heavily involved’ for the Cobblers in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup first-round tie with Wycombe Wanderers.

Bowie returned from injury to play 45 minutes against Grimsby Town at the weekend while Fox remained an unused substitute after recovering from a hamstring problem. Both could start at Sixfields tomorrow, but sidelined defender Akin Odimayo will have to wait a little longer for his Cobblers debut.

"It was great to have Kieron on the pitch and he did really well,” said manager Jon Brady. “With Foxy, he’s just come back from a hamstring problem so it was a little bit of extra precaution but I’m sure you will see them both heavily involved on Tuesday night.

"Akin has had a hamstring injury that he picked up just before the first game of the season. He pulled up and he’s having treatment and that’s ongoing but we hope to have him back in the next couple of weeks.”

The visit of Wycombe in the Carabao Cup will allow Brady the opportunity to rotate his squad and give fringe players a chance to impress while resting others.

"There are players in the squad who need an opportunity and we will have a look at that,” he added. “I feel there's a lot of boys on the bench who are champing at the bit.

"At the moment, we do feel a little bit light and we have to protect one or two so you might see some changes. We won’t make wholesale changes because with the injuries we have at the moment, it just can’t happen.

"But what we will do is make changes where we feel we need them and give an opportunity to players who need 90 minutes or at least need some minutes in their legs.

"How we will approach it? We want to win every game and all due respect to the opposition because they nearly made the Championship last season and came down the year before that so there are not many harder tests. But we will give a couple of players a chance to show what they can do.”
