Disappointed Page feels Cobblers did enough to beat Coventry

The Cobblers have yet to trail in a league game this season but they’ve been unable to turn leads into victories, much to the frustration of their manager.

“I thought we had to be disciplined in our defending again,” said Page after Saturday’s draw.

“We were playing against a Coventry team I’ve watched two or three times and they’ve had the lions share of possession but not really created many chances.

“It was a different story today. They looked a threat from inside the first five minutes so we knew we had to be disciplined in our defending which i was pleased with.

“But we created enough chances to win the game. I sound like a broken record but it says a lot about the club and the players that we’re disappointed to come away from the Ricoh Arena without the win.

“You expect Jak McCourt to put that in and on another day he scores so we’re creating the chances but we’ve got to be clinical and we’re disappointed not to have the win.

“We’ll take the positives, we’ll take the point and move onto the next game.”

There were two main sources of frustration for Page, both the nature of Coventry’s second-half equaliser and Northampton’s inability to turn promising positions into goals.

He added: “We’ve just addressed the goal we’ve conceded which was an extremely sloppy goal.

“We didn’t close him down when we know (Jordi) Jones has quality on the ball and he delivered into an area that punished us.

“We’re getting into good positions at the other end but didn’t deliver. I was pleased for Beauts to get his goal and it was a good finish, but our final ball and our delivery into the box let us down.

“Having said that, we still had a couple of chances at the end which we should have finished to come away with three points.”
