Torquay 1 - 0 Northampton: Cobblers stay bottom after third defeat in a row at Torquay United

Cobblers latest news

Cobblers latest news

THE Cobblers’ poor run of form continued as they plunged to defeat at in-form Torquay United.

Town were beaten by a header in the final 15 minutes of the game from Gulls centre-back Mark Ellis.

It means Aidy Boothroyd’s men have now lost three games on the bounce and remain firmly rooted to the foot of npower League Two.

Northampton had the better of the earlier exchanges and Saido Berahino drew a good save from Bobby Olejnik from Luke Guttridge’s disguised pass on the 10-minute mark.

It was the first of a string of shots from around the edge of the box that Olejnik deal with pretty well as the home side played almost exclusively on the break.

They upped their intensity after the interval and Chris Weale was required to make a good parry save after former Kettering striker Rene Howe outmuscled Kelvin Langmead outside the box and fired a shot at goal.

Berahino had a one-on-one effort saved after being put through by Guttridge on the hour mark as the game started to open up.

Langmead did superbly to get across and block Chris Robertson at a set-piece but from the resulting corner Mark Ellis piled in at the back post to score an unstoppable header.

It was one of only a few chances in the game but enough for the home side to take all three points.

COBBLERS: (4-5-1): Weale, Crowe (Tozer, 87mins), Webster, Langmead, Adams, Young, Johnson (Akinfenwa, 84mins), Guttridge (Gilligan, 71mins), Harding, Jacobs, Berahino

Subs not used: Asante, Hall

TORQUAY: (4-1-4-1): Olejnik, Oastler, Robertson, Ellis, Nicholson, Lathrope, Stevens, Mansell, O’Kane, Morris (Atieno, 73mins), Howe (McPhee, 87mins)

Subs not used: Rowe-Turner, Saah, Rice

Knowing Marvo, that is the most offensive thing anyone could ever say to him, Thatcher indeed.

Comment no 17 has made my day. Marvo is a SUN reader! I bet he voted for Thatcher as well.

I think your comments are, if not offensive, certainly boarding on downright rude sometimes. I'm sure the apologies will be accepted. I was going to suggest WD40 for you but as you obviously have a screw loose already, how about vanishing cream?

Well one things for certain, if your dads got an itch, he certainly won't blame Aidy Boothroyd for it. Tell him to try E45 cream.

Mr Marvesley. I think you will find that if someone has an itch then they want to scratch it. It doesn't mean they care. Yours faithfully Robbie (son of Rob)

Still not caring, eh Tony? This started when I responded to Rog Green who said "If Boothroyd fails it will be because too much needed doing in too short a time." My response was that there was 27 games left whenh he arrived, more than enough time to get out of the bottom two, not that we were in it when we arrived. Rog Green's reply was "He will not have the resources". Well that has been shown to be coswallop by the events of this month, like I said we've signed more players than any of our rivals, some haven't signed anybody! Those are the facts. Now I don't remember being offensive to anybody but if I have then I apologise wholeheartedly. As for my name, well this will be the third time I have supplied it on here (look through previous threads), I will not be doing so again. Yours sincerely John Marvesley.

The only thing that bothers me Marvo is that you change what someone says to try and win an argument. Why do you keep saying "NO resourses?" Nobody has EVER said that. If you think bringing in Clarke and Harding means we have THE resources I'm definitely wrong and you are right. I think you will find that it was you that started to be offensive. I'm starting to turn into a record player like yourself so SHUT Up or have the b@lls to put your name to your comments!

Well you for one seem to care, otherwise why the responses? Oh and I quite like to hear the opinions of ten year olds, they tend to tell it like it is rather than base their views on some personal agenda. Anyway back to facts, have a search see how many signings Dagenham, Hereford, Macclesfield or the rest of the bottom half of league 2 made in the transfer window. We outdid them all. No resourses, don't make me laugh, Aidy has been given more than most and that's why I believe he can be held responsible at the end of the season should we go down. You know what, if you asked him I bet he'd say the same.

Apologies Marvo I now realise you are probably only about ten and illiterate to boot. Two of the quotes were "resources but NOT what he would have been given" and "He will not have the resources". Nowhere does he say "No resources". To be honest nobody on here seems to give a monkey what you think. Up the Town!

Didn't he? Oh well, I can still see "resources" in two of his posts but hey, who cares about the truth when you're on a witchhunt. Anyway, you lot may not aportion any blame to Aidy Boothroyd if we're relegated but I most certainly will. Fortunately I have every faith that I wont have to.

Look at the signings we bring in today, then look at the signings the other bottom six clubs make, then tell me we have no resources! David Cardoza is doing the club proud! Up the.Cobblers.

Wow! You are both very passionate but probably best to draw a line under this. I do have to say though Marvo that I don't think your opinions hold water. I can see where you are coming from if it were normal circumstances, but Boothroyd has come into this with an almighty job on his hands. Just think back to the pre-season friendlies, a manager hiding in the dug out who criticises the previous manager and leaves behind a huge squad of Conference level (at best) players. He then states after leaving that the squad he left is more than capable of avoiding the drop. How you can suddenly accuse Steve Rodhouse of being disrespectful to David Cardoza when he is just stating facts is a little weird, unless you think we should have a squad of 45 players for the rest of the season. Anyway, let's all shake hands and get behind the Cobblers.

Marvo. To the tune "We'll support you ever more" :~ Are you Jackson, are you Jackson, are you Jackson in disguise? You are certainly miserable enough.
