Northampton Town: Langmead wants to repay boss Boothroyd
KELVIN LANGMEAD wants to repay the faith shown in him by Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd by playing his part in the club’s climb to Football League safety.
And the centre-back says he will ‘never give up’ hope that the team can drag themselves out of the npower League Two mire.
After a run of games against some of the division’s promotion-chasing teams, Town face Barnet on Saturday in the first of three home games in a row against sides from league two’s bottom half.
After the Bees, Macclesfield and Wimbledon visit, and Langmead wants to prove to the manager in those games and the ones away from Sixfields that he was right to make the defender’s move from Peterborough United permanent.
“When a manager of his stature is keen to bring you in and keen to sign you it’s always going to give you a positive lift and it certainly did that,” he said. “I’m delighted to be here permanently. It’s something I did want to do and I hope I can reward him by getting out of the bottom two.
“The turnaround is the most important thing. Ten games ago we weren’t even matching teams and we were getting beat from the start. Things change when a manager comes in, they do things differently, and we’ve responded really well to the change.
“We realise there needs to be more points picked up but we know as a group that it’s changing and the fans can see that it’s changing.”
Time is on the Cobblers’ side with 20 matches left to play and further reinforcements likely to be added to the squad in the coming weeks.
Town are still in the market for a goalkeeper following the injury to Shane Higgs and could sign as many as two more players.
But while there are still plenty of points at stake, Langmead is aware the season is now in its back stretch and is cautious the games will soon start to run out.
“I’ll never give up and it’s the same for the rest of the squad as well,” he said.
“You can say we’ve got 20 games to go but that’ll soon be 15 and then it will be 10.
“We can’t wait for those games thinking it’s comfortable, we’ve got to start winning games now and that starts against Barnet on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea goalkeeper Sam Walker, who returned to his parent club after the Cobblers signed Higgs on an 18-month deal, is understood to be closing in on a reunion with Gary Johnson at Yeovil Town.

Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 12:29 PMWell Frank I saw the goals and highlights on the BBC website and those final 10 minutes looked like a bunch of school boys playing. Two of their late goals were almost identical!! and another 10 minutes of playing would have resulted in another Shrewsbury scoreline. My comment might have been a bit unrealistic, if that's what you meant Cheggars, but the point is, is that it's all very well Langmead saying sorry after every defeat, but it doesn't seem to make any difference to his next performance!

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 07:56 PMHow do you know Jez? You don't go to home games? Anyone who did go would tell you It wasn't a 5-2 scoreline. When you are at the bottom lady luck deserts you big time and that was so true on Saturday.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 02:42 PMRepay the manager? Shouldn't he be repaying the fans (their entrance fee out of his wages) after he gave in so easily to the Southend attack on Saturday?
