Northampton Town: Boothroyd ‘Luke is a fireball’
Cobblers latest news
AIDY BOOTHROYD has described recently-arrived midfielder playmaker Luke Guttridge as a ‘fireball’ of a player.
And the Cobblers boss registered his delight that Guttridge, who left Sixfields 18 months ago, was happy to return to a club who have since slumped to the bottom of the Football League.
The 29-year-old was on the radar of several other clubs, with Oxford United also rumoured to be in the frame for his signature.
But Boothroyd was delighted Guttridged opted for a return to Town.
“I like Luke and I’ve like him for a long time,” he said. “He’s a little fireball, he gets around and he scores goals as well.
“He felt his hamstring a little bit at Torquay so I thought the best thing to do would be to get him off the pitch, as a precaution really.
“The last thing I wanted to do was bring a player in and then lose them to injury straight away.”
Guttridge becomes the fifth former player to come back to Northampton this season – Boothroyd says that is a coincidence but acknowledges that his latest addition has a feeling for the club.
“Luke has got the gumption to come here and help the club out and there are lots of playing who wouldn’t have fancied doing that because they’re fairweather players,” he said.
“Luke’s statement is that he’s coming here because he wants to work with me, he loves this club and I know we can be successful together.
“That’s great, that’s what we want to hear. We’ve got 18 games to go and we go to work this week looking to put a few things right in those games.”
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that left-back Blair Adams has had his loan spell from Sunderland extended by a month,
Adams has played every minute since joining from the Black Cats on New Year’s Day but he will not be joined in extending his stay by Akwasi Asante, who has returned to Birmingham.
The forward scored the winning goal in the 2-1 victory at Morecambe but has found himself surplus to requirements in the past fortnight, and did not make it off the bench at Torquay on Saturday.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 01:01 PMThat's the point of the rolling contract. He would have to stay with us, as he would have to be given the twelve months notice.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 12:37 PMThis is a good signing, but it's all quite funny really. We will soon have the old team back, especially if they sign Chris Doig. If we manage to stay up this season look out next season. I can't help think tough that should we go into the conference that Aidy Boothroyd will disappear as he is on a 12 month rolling contract. I wonder who will then manage us, Sammo!!! Lets all keep giving the team our best support, and recognise the fabulous job and commitment shown by David Cardoza.
