Northampton Town: All quiet on the Cobblers transfer front
Barnet FC V Northampton Town Football Club. Arron Davies.
THE Cobblers have confirmed they have not received any contact from former boss Gary Johnson about recruiting players from his old club to sign for Yeovil.
Johnson returned to Huish Park this week and told reporters after the Glovers’ 4-0 thrashing at Sheffield United on Tuesday night that several new signings would be required.
There has been speculation that Aidy Boothroyd’s predecessor might be interested in taking Arron Davies – a player he signed both for Town and Peterborough and who he nurtured into a star at Yeovil – back to his old club.
But Boothroyd confirmed there have been no concrete offers for Davies, who is available for selection for tomorrow’s visit of second-placed Southend to Sixfields, or any other players from the Glovers or any other clubs.
“I don’t know the answer to that,” said the Cobblers boss when asked if he anticipated a phone call from Johnson. “I can’t speak for Gary but every manager is different and they like different things and different players.
“He may well come back, he may well pick up the phone, I’ve got no idea and I can’t tell you what’s in Gary’s mind.
“The fact he has got back in at Yeovil means he might come back for some players but, like me, he’s probably observing.
“He’ll be looking at what he’s got before he makes any decisions. I’ve had 25-30 days to do that, have made some decisions and will continue to make those decisions.”
Johnson wasted no time in making his mind up about players he wanted and did not want in his first week at Sixfields, signing full-backs Nana and Jamie Reckord almost straight away.
Such a policy suggests he may make contact sooner rather than later, but as things stand no firm offers for any Northampton players have been made.
Boothroyd’s telephone has been busy, but only with vague enquiries about members of a squad he says must be reduced.
“It’s all a little bit flirtatious at the moment, there’s a bit of teasing going on,” he said. “People are saying they like him, then they don’t like him.
“So I’ve had a lot of calls but nothing concrete so far and until it’s concrete there’s nothing we can do about it.
“The player has then got to want to go and it then becomes up to the club that wants him to persuade him to go or for myself and his agent to persuade him.”
Meanwhile, the club have completed the signing of defender Jason Crowe until the end of the season.

Friday, January 13, 2012 at 03:48 PMOf course GJ does not want any of the excess Cobblers team he has a mountain to climb at Yeovil and it will be interesting to see how he copes with their problem for their sake we hope its a better job than he did at Cobblers We wish Mr Boothroyd all the best in the games left for this season and hopefully climb out of the danger zone be interesting watching the results over the next few weeks for both teams

Friday, January 13, 2012 at 01:13 PMThat is because they have no money. It has all been spent on soft drinks. "Boothroyd’s telephone has been busy, but only with vague enquiries about members of a squad he says must be reduced. “It’s all a little bit flirtatious at the moment, there’s a bit of teasing going on,” he said. “People are saying they like him, then they don’t like him" Ever thought of getting a proper job? It will all end in tears.
