Northampton Town: One in, one out for Cobblers
THE Cobblers have continued their busy start to the January transfer window by permanently signing defender Kelvin Langmead and releasing midfielder Nick McKoy.
Langmead, who has spent most of the current campaign on loan at Sixfields, has put pen to paper on an 18-month deal while McKoy has had his contract terminated and is expected to sign for Tamworth.
Manager Aidy Boothroyd sang the praises of Peterborough centre-back Langmead this week, and the player himself also expressed his desire to extend his Northampton stay, a wish that has now been granted.
“Kelvin has done very well for us,” said the Town boss, who watched Langmead have his best game for the club in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury, another of his former clubs.
“He’s a player who has had success at this level before and he is a wholehearted player.
“He is a magnet in both boxes and I think in time he will prove to be a key player for us.
“We have got another player we are looking to bring in, but that might not happen until next week now.”
McKoy’s time with the club was blighted by suspension – two sending-offs saw the former Kettering man miss five games through bans, and in total he picked up two yellow cards in his five starts.
The most recent of those came in central midfield in the 2-1 loss at Oxford United before Christmas, but McKoy was also used as a substitute in the defeat to Swindon on New Year’s Eve.
The signing of Ben Harding on loan from Wycombe meant that McKoy found himself surplus to requirements at Sixfields, with a reunion with former boss Marcus Law at the Lambs now on the cards.
“This is a good opportunity for Nick and we wish him well,” said Boothroyd.
“I believe in being honest with people and Nick was not going to be part of the future here.
“It is in the interests of every player that they are playing regular first-team football, and he has a move lined up that will hopefully give Nick that opportunity.
“We wish him well for the future.”

Friday, January 6, 2012 at 10:27 AMA good addition, Kelvin has played well recently alongside Ben Tozer and deserves his contract, nice to know he has also taken our old friends down the road for a fair bit of cash as well. With Byron Webster nearing a return we also now have a bit of cover in central defence. The side has a nice look to it now with good balance, it's difficult to see where the weakest link is (maybe right back). It will be interesting to see when the promised new signing arrives just where he'll be playing. Looking forward to the trip to Morecambe on Saturday to witness our first win in 15 matches, you just have to be there. Up the Cobblers!
