The East Anglian Daily Times has named Northampton as one of three clubs who they claim have offered a contract to Watt, who spent time on loan at Colchester United last season.

Along with Town, Burton Albion and Plymouth Argyle are both reported to have spoken to the player about a summer move.

Watt has represented England at three youth international levels but only made four senior appearances for the Gunners in a career that was spent mainly on loan away from the Emirates.

As well as his spell at Colchester, Watt also played temporarily for Southend, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Crawley Town before his Arsenal exit.

Northampton are keen to strengthen their attacking department, both centrally and on the left wing, where Ishmel Demontagnac is their only recognised option.

Roy O’Donovan played on the left of midfield several times last season but is yet to sign the contract he was offered at Sixfields last month.

And two players who could have featured there - Jake Robinson and Louis Moult - were released this summer.
