Breaking News: Cobblers Vs Macclesfield postponed due to frozen pitch
Cobblers latest news
Northampton Town’s game with Macclesfield Town, scheduled to be played at Sixfields today has been postponed because of a frozen pitch.
The frost covers had worked all week, but head Groundsman Paul Knowles explained the harsh frost on Friday night was the decisive factor.
He said: “The covers did their job fine until Friday evening but it was one hard frost too many.
“The temperatures dropped to -8 or -9 in parts of the county on Friday night and even where we had triple covered the pitch we had such a brutal frost it still penetrated the triple covers.
“When it does that there is not much you can do. The frost covers kept out four frosts, and we would have played without any problems on Friday, but such a heavy fifth frost was just one too many unfortunately.”
