Breaking News: Cobblers sign Reading striker Williams
Cobblers latest news
THE Cobblers have moved quickly to replace Saido Berahino by snapping up Reading striker Brett Williams on a month’s loan.
Berahino returned to parent club West Bromwich Albion earlier today, but Town boss Aidy Boothroyd has filled the vacant gap quickly and signed Williams.
The striker was given his chance to in League football by the Royals at the age of 23, after joining from non-league outfit Eastleigh.
He scored a goal every two games whilst playing for the Spitfires in Blue Square South, and signed a deal with Reading until the summer of 2012.
Williams has put in some impressive displays for Reading’s reserves, while he has just finished a loan spell with Rotherham United, scoring twice in four starts with seven substitute appearances.
They to date are his only senior league appearances.
“I’m delighted to have signed Brett and I’m hoping that he is going to come in and improve the team,” said Boothroyd.
“He is here for a month initially so we will see how things work out but I’d like to thank Reading and Brian McDermott for giving us this opportunity.
“Brett will bring power, pace, strength and height to the team and I’m hoping that he will also bring goals.
“He’s got a phenomenal record at non-league level and he scored two in four for Rotherham in a loan spell earlier this season.
“I want us to be a team that has a number of ways of scoring a goal and Brett certainly provides us with another option.”
Williams’ most recent outing was for Rotherham at Dagenham & Redbridge on January 28, and he is set to make a quick return to east London as the Cobblers travel to take on John Still’s men this weekend.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 07:33 PMGiven the current trend of signing ex-players, i suppose that one with the same name as one of our 1988 squad will suffice.
