Breaking News: Cobblers sign Leicester City keeper on loan
Northampton Town have signed Leicester City goalkeeper Chris Weale on a month’s loan.
Chris joined the Foxes on a free transfer from Bristol City in the summer of 2009 and has made 87 appearances for City so far.
He began his career at Yeovil Town, making his debut against Hereford United in December 2000 and went on to make over 150 appearances for the club before moving to Yeovil’s south-west rivals Bristol City in July 2006.
Weale only made 10 starts for the Robins, and was an unused substitute in Bristol City’s play-off final defeat against Hull in 2008.
In his first season with the Foxes, Weale started all but one match, when he was rested for the final league game of the season against Middlesbrough.
He kept 17 clean sheets and was shortlisted for the Player of the Year award.
This season Weale has made 3 appearances for Leicester.
Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd said: “Considering our current position, and considering the calibre and experience of the player we are bringing in, I think we have just signed the best goalkeeper in this division.
“He has come because he wants to play, he wants to work with Tim Flowers and he wants to help us and make a contribution to help get us away from where we are.
“When you bring players and characters like that in, you are giving yourselves a great chance of achieving something.”
Weale has been allocated squad number 32 and is available to face Barnet at Sixfields on Saturday
