BREAKING NEWS: Cobblers re-sign midfielder Guttridge

Northampton Town have re-signed Luke Guttridge on an 18 month contract after the midfielder spent a year and a half at Aldershot Town.

Luke began his career as a trainee with Torquay United, making his league debut whilst still a trainee in a 4-0 win against Mansfield Town on April 10 2000.

In May 2000, he left for Cambridge, on a free transfer. He had to wait until the following spring for his Cambridge league debut, after playing twice in the LDV Trophy, but when it came he scored within two minutes in a vital 2-0 home win against Oldham Athletic.

Guttridge joined Southend United in March 2005 and firmly established himself as a mainstay in the side. He was a major factor in the Blues 2005/06 League One title winning side.

A tough-tackling, all action player, Guttridge also weighed in with some spectacular goals. He lost his place in the Southend first team after their promotion and in November 2006 was allowed to join Leyton Orient on loan.

On 30th January 2007, he left Southend to sign a permanent contract at Leyton Orient initially until the end of the 2006-07 season.

He left the club in May 2007 to sign for then Championship side Colchester United.

He left United after one season and signed for the Cobblers in 2008, spending two years at Sixfields before his move to Aldershot.

Guttridge will wear squad number 22, and has travelled to Torquay for Saturday’s game.

As long as these players that are coming in to the club are going to work hard and can keep us up im help, the number one thing now is just get out of the bottom of the table, so good luck for today lads.

I thought Guttridge was a better player towards the end of his Cobbler's career. Prior to that he was too similar to that famous crab turned commentator. Could be a good signing but like most on here I'm starting to worry about the age thing.

A good little player. Just seems he's unable to stay anywhere for longer than a season without falling out with his employer. The sort of signing they need to get them out of the mire.

Spot on Tabasco kid...a donkey sanctuary sums it up perfectly. Players like Doig, Guttridge, Akinfenwa and even Crowe had their day here where they served us admirably, but time has marched on and I share with you a dislike of this latest trend. They're all a yard slower and not the type of player upon whom you build a much-needed revival.

I never thought that Stuart Gray would still hold an influence over our signings this season. I rate Guttridge very highly, but i cant help feeling that sixfields has become a bit of a donkey sanctuary of late.
