Shrimpers boss Phil Brown has activated a further year in Prosser’s contract, stressing the 27-year-old is part of his plans.

Cobblers were looking to reunite the player with his former Southend team-mate Ryan Cresswell at the heart of the defence.

However, Brown has no intention of letting Prosser go ahead of his newly-promoted club’s campaign in Sky Bet League One.

“We’ve had a bid from Northampton Town for Luke Prosser which we’ve turned down,” Brown told the Southend Echo.

“I’ve had a chat with Luke about the situation and at the moment he’s part of my plans so I don’t want him to go anywhere else.

“At the same time though, I’m fully aware that he wants to be playing regularly at this stage of his career.

“We already have Adam Barrett and Cian Bolger at the club and we’re in talks to keep Adam Thompson here as well.

“But we will look at the situation again during pre-season and if Luke is unhappy then we will have another chat about things then.”

Prosser has made 148 appearances for Southend since signing in the summer of 2010.

However, he started just seven times after Christmas and appeared just once in the final 11 games of last season.
