Cobblers new boy Leon: Leeds still a 'great club'
Leon Constantine paid tribute to Leeds United as a 'great club' despite quitting Elland Road for Northampton Town.
The striker, signed on a free transfer, made only two starts for Leeds last season, as well as seven on loan at Oldham.
He also made a number of substitute appearances at Elland Road, but all in all he played just five times for the Yorkshire club.
Injuries were a real problem for the big striker, and then when Dennis Wise quit as manager for Newcastle – while Constantine was recovering from a broken arm – Gary McAllister came in and signalled an end to his Leeds career.
But Constantine is not bitter and said: "It's not that it didn't work out for me at Leeds, it was just injuries.
"The two times I started for them I scored, so I have left there with my head held high and the supporters there love me.
"It is a great club, but a new manager has come in and he has his own ideas which is fair enough, that's how football goes.
"But coming to Northampton is a new chapter for me and Leeds is all in the past."
And he added: "I got 26 goals in my last season at Port Vale and I was buzzing for the next season at Leeds, but unfortunately I got injured.
"But I am back up and running now, I have been working hard in pre-season and I am looking forward to, hopefully, scoring plenty of goals for Northampton."
