The 24-year-old Irishman became a free agent at the end of last season after he was released by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Corry was brought to Sixfields by Cobblers boss Chris Wilder for a short trial spell in pre-season, during which time he made his first Northampton appearance as a second half substitute in the defeat to Derby County.

He was then named in the starting line-up against Birmingham City three days later when he played his part in an excellent team performance.

Corry impressed in both cameos, and Wilder has now decided to bring him to the club on a 12-month deal.

“He’s a footballer I’ve known for quite a while now and he fits in with the way that we want to play,” said Wilder.

“We want to get the ball and we want to move it around in midfield and he’s very good technically.

“We’ll need to get him up to speed as he’s behind the boys in his pre-season work so he’ll have to force his way into the team but now we’ve got four midfielders in Taylor, Corry, O’Toole and Byrom.

“If we play two or three all of them are comfortable on the ball and in possession, as well as working hard to get it back.”

Corry signed for Sheffield Wednesday in 2012 but only made 27 league appearances in his three-year spell at the Owls. He’s also had loan spells at Tranmere Rovers and Carlisle United.

“Paul’s career has been a little bit stop-start over the last 18 months and there were high hopes for him at Sheffield Wednesday.

“He was playing Championship football so we know there’s a player inside of him and one that we feel has gone under the radar a little bit.

“We’ll dust him down and he’ll be a good asset for our football club.”
