The former Oxford United and AFC Wimbledon winger joins on a two-year deal, and manager Chris Wilder is delighted at the capture.

Wilder signed Potter in 2009 when he was manager at Oxford, and he has gone back to what he knows by signing the 26-year-old for the Cobblers.

“I think this is a really good fit for us and the player,” said Wilder.

“I got the best out of Alfie, and Alfie really enjpyed playing under me at Oxford.

“He needs to get himself back up and running as it has been a difficult 18 months for him, but he is at a really good age.

“The deal we have signed him for, financially, is an excellent one for us, and he suits the way we play in that he is similar to Ricky Holmes, similar to Lawson D’Ath.

“He has plenty of movement, plenty of ability, and I think the supporters will really enjoy his style of play because he works hard and is committed.”

Potter was signed for Oxford by Wilder from Kettering Town, and he went on to play more than 150 games and scoring 28 goals at the Kassam Stadium, before he made a free transfer to AFC Wimbledon in January.

He made 16 appearances for the Dons, scoring once.
