Cobblers boss Wilder dismisses rumours linking him to Cambridge United job

Wilder has been installed as the bookies’ favourite to take over at the Abbey Stadium following last week’s dismissal of Richard Money.

But the Town boss says he is going nowhere, and that he is concentrating on preparing his Cobblers team for Saturday’s Sixfields date with Mansfield Town.

Asked about being favourite for the Cambridge job, Wilder said: “A lot has gone off, and I am still sat here as manager of this football club.

“I am going to get my head down, as I have done through any speculation throughout my career.

“This happens from time to time when your football club, your players, and tour team are picking up decent results.

“So I will get my head down and keep going.”

Wilder has done a remarkable job at the helm at Sixfields, particularly over the past few months as the off-field problems have intensified.

With the club due in the High Court to face a winding-up petition due to the £166,000 owed to HMRC, those problems are still very much there, but hopes are increasing that a deal will be done with former Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas to take over the club ahead of the weekend.

If that were to be the case, Wilder admits it would be a ‘huge relief for everybody’.
