After being scouted by former Cobblers boss and Magpies chief scout Graham Carr, the teenager was signed by Newcastle for an undisclosed fee from Northampton in the summer, and the club’s football development manager Beardsley has been impressed.

Speaking to www.NUFC.co.uk, Beardlsey said: “I think we’ve got a real chance with Ivan. He’s been a massive plus for us.

“He wants to score goals, he wants to make goals, and he wants the team to win. I think we’ve hit lucky with Ivan.”

Toney was understandbly delighted with the award, and revealed he will be celebrating by going to Sixfields to watch his former team-mates take on Hartlepool United on Saturday.
