Harrison has been in superb form of late and scored a try in the 30-24 defeat to Leicester Tigers on Saturday.

The 23-year-old was born in New Zealand but qualifies for England through his father and has expressed a strong desire to represent the Red Rose.

And Jones has been impressed by what he has seen from Harrison, who has been lining up at No.8 for Saints, but is predominantly seen as a seven by club and country.

“We’ve had a look at him and we’re going to have a look at him closely over the next couple of weeks,” Jones told The Sun. “I think he is a seven.”

Jones labelled Harrison’s exceptional showing in the recent Champions Cup defeat at Saracens as ‘combustible’.

But the England head coach will not be asking Saints hooker and national skipper Dylan Hartley, who discovered Harrison in New Zealand, about the player.

“Dylan is big mates with him so he’s not a good person to talk to,” Jones said.

“Never talk to players about selection because they’ve all got their mates, it doesn’t matter who they are.

“They’ve all got players they like and they’ll tell you about the players they like.”
