The 27-year-old, who joined the County from Surrey, was not offered a new contract at the end of last season and has decided to call time on his playing career.

He was a member of the Steelbacks side that won the Friends Life T20 in 2013 and played 21 first-class, 18 one-day and 26 T20 matches in all during his time at Wantage Road.

In a statement to announce his decision he said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team-mates, coaches and fans of both Surrey and Northamptonshire for their support.

“I have been very lucky to have played cricket professionally for the last nine years.

“I have been fortunate enough to play with and against some of the best players in the world.

“Along the way I have travelled the country and the world making lifelong friends and memories doing something I love.

“Hitting the winning runs in a Lord’s final and winning the T20 are moments that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

“I would like to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support through the highs and lows (there were plenty) of my career.”
