It was the Steelbacks’ seventh win in their past nine games in the Blast.

And they are now on the brink of reaching the quarter-finals with two more games - at Birmingham Bears and at home to Durham Jets - to go in the North Group.

Wakely was delighted with the display against the Vikings and revelled in his side’s ruthless nature.

“We played very good cricket there,” said the captain. “It was probably the most complete performance we have put in because we batted well and we bowled well.

“We’ve been very clinical and this is a crucial time now - we need to kick on from here.

“We had the game under control because we bowled very well and restricted them to a decent target.

“They probably got 10 too many, we didn’t quite execute our plans, which is something we have been very good at in this competition at the end of the innings.

“The momentum was with us and we had control of that game.”
